1976 | The historic call

A HISTORIC MOMENT STILL CALLS US TODAY.

In 1976, as the United States celebrated its 200th birthday, Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon stood before hundreds of thousands of Americans at Yankee Stadium and the Washington Monument with a powerful message:

America had been uniquely blessed by God—not for its own sake, but to serve a greater purpose in the world.

He called upon America to renew its spiritual foundation, overcome division, stand courageously for freedom, and use its strength in service to humanity and world peace.

Fifty years later, as America celebrates its 250th anniversary, that call continues.

The call from 1976

This is the time for awakening.
America must accept her global responsibility.
— Rev. Sun Myung Moon

God’s Hope is America

At its best, America represents an extraordinary ideal: that freedom is a gift from God, that people of different races, religions, and backgrounds can become one nation, and that our blessings carry with them a responsibility to serve others.

Together with his wife, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, Rev. Moon spent the decades following 1976 advancing this vision around the world—bringing together leaders across nations, religions, cultures, and political divides in pursuit of peace.

Today, our nation and world face a new moment of uncertainty and division.

As we celebrate 250 years of America, we gather not simply to remember the past, but to consider the responsibility before us.

What kind of America are we called to become?
